Counselling is a meeting of two people, when carried out on a one to one basis, the counsellor will encourage a non-judgemental trusting relationship – some therapists believe that the relationship itself is “healing”.
This trusting and safe environment can be used for clients to work through their problems and issues and perhaps come to a sense of understanding and acceptance.
The counsellor will encourage and not advise and will help you to come to you own conclusions and perhaps see your world differently. The end result is likely to be a sense of self worth and clarity. Clients will often say that this is the first time that they feel that have been listened to.
Who is it for?
The simple answer is everyone. At some time in our lives we need someone to talk to, someone without their own agenda, someone who you can trust, someone who is committed to confidentiality and someone who will not judge. All kind of life events can trigger this need in us and there are no age or gender boundaries.
What should I expect?
There are no linear lines to recovery, and “recovery” can have a different meaning for everyone. Counselling can sometimes be painful and emotionally draining. Feelings that have been buried for years can be looked at in a safe environment, but often you can feel worse before you feel better, that is why a commitment is required initially by both parties.
How Long?
Each session lasts 50 minutes and constant reviews will take place during the process to ensure that the course is ended at the appropriate time which is safe for the client and they can continue with their lives autonomously.
How Much?
The initial session is free, further sessions are dependent on your household income.
